1. Choose your Source Address Book
Address Magic Personal Edition first asks you which type of address book you want to import from. Address Magic only shows address books that are installed on your system, so this screen shot does not include all the formats that Address Magic supports.

2. Choose your Destination

The Destination is very similar to the source, but notice that "Only show formats for installed applications" has been turned off. You are now allowed to export to any text-based address book, even if that application is not installed.

3. Choose your Duplicate Handling

Notice that Address Magic gives you final summary information before you start. If the destination format did not support duplicate handling, you would not be able to choose it.

Common Questions

Do I need the original email application installed to read its address book?

With a few exceptions, yes, you must have the original email application installed. The exceptions are CSV, Eudora, Pine, LDIF, Mozilla, Opera, and AOL. If you need to go from one machine to another that have incompatible address book formats, use Address Magic Backup (AMI) as the intermediate format.

I need to migrate several users. Can I buy one copy of Address Magic and have a technician use it once on each user's computer?

No. Address Magic Personal Edition is licensed per desktop, not per user. However, the discount for 100 or more licenses approaches 90%, so the price goes down dramatically in quantity.

Does the Personal Edition convert messages too or just address books?

The Personal Edition can only convert address books.

Can I copy my AOL Favorites too?

No, not with Address Magic Personal Edition. However, we offer a separate product called ePreserver (see above) that will do what you need.

Does the Personal Edition support distribution lists?

Yes, Address Magic Personal Edition supports distribution lists including nested distribution lists. However, the demo does not support distribution lists.

Does the Personal Edition support Automation?

You need to purchase the Enterprise Edition to get support for scripting and batch applications.

Does the Personal Edition support more than one email address per contact?

Yes, up to three email addresses per contact are supported.

Does the Personal Edition convert Exchange Server addresses to SMTP addresses?

Yes, although if you try and convert to an Outlook contacts folder, Outlook will automatically convert them back. Use a Personal Address Book (PAB) as a destination instead.

Is there a Mac version?

No. Connected Software’s products do not support the Mac. However, if you need to copy a PC address book to the Mac OS X address book, you can convert your PC address book to LDIF with Address Magic and email the LDIF file to the Mac.

The Founder's Story
