Excel Scheduler
Low cost and
easy-to-use spreadsheet templates for Project Management, Scheduling
Customer Jobs and Employees, Generating Calendars and Gantt Charts. The
Excel Scheduler is a sub-set of the Spreadsheet Scheduler, containing all
models except job/workcenter models.
Scheduling
problems tend to be specific to the operating procedures of a particular
business. Therefore, this collection can be used as a set of building blocks
to develop custom applications. The spreadsheet environment is particularly
suited for this since you can link, customize, expand, and consolidate the
data however you wish.
The scheduling techniques include:
job and
task sequencing
development of calendars
Gantt charts
due-date assignment
computation of lateness and other performance measures
scheduling of work according to precedence relationships
The simple
Excel based programs provide an easy-to-use set of tools to help any
organization manage projects more efficiently, improve customer deliveries,
and minimize work-in-process times.
How it Works
The Excel Scheduler includes CPM (Critical Path Management) models for
hourly, daily, or weekly time units.
By determining early and late starting points for each task, as well as task
duration and precedence relationships, the template generates a Gantt Chart
showing which tasks are critical; that is, must be done on time, otherwise
the entire schedule will slip.
Functionality also includes ability to do "what-if" analysis to accommodate
changes without missing deadlines.
Features
The scheduling techniques include:
job and
task sequencing,
development of calendars,
construction of several different types of Gantt charts,
processing idle periods,
due-date assignment,
computation of lateness and other performance measures, and scheduling of
work according to precedence relationships.
These
techniques can be extracted and assembled in many different ways.

The Spreadsheet Scheduler includes CPM (Critical Path Management) models for

By determining early and late starting points for each task, as well as task
duration and precedence relationships, the template generates a Gantt Chart
showing which tasks are critical; that is, must be done on time, otherwise
the entire schedule will slip.
Work flow and work-in-process models provide techniques for scheduling
customer jobs through single workstations, workstations in series, or
workstations in parallel. These models enable more efficient planning and
accurate customer deliveries through minimizing average flow time, number of
days late for jobs, and number of late jobs.
Functionality also includes ability to do "what-if" analysis to accommodate
changes without missing deadlines.

About User Solutions
User Solutions, Inc. was founded in 1991 to fulfill the genuine need
for lower cost, easy to learn and use software solutions for the
manufacturing and operations management markets. The core management group
transitioned from Lotus Development Corporation where they had managed the
Lotus Manufacturing Marketing vertical segment.
While the senior management team was at Lotus, they discovered an
opportunity for marketing spreadsheet "add-on" solutions (also called
"templates") for manufacturing; a pre-built spreadsheet application that had
powerful analysis routines and instant reports already setup for decision
support. While most manufacturing managers were already using the
spreadsheet to communicate basic manufacturing information, they did not
have the time or skills to develop the
models that were necessary to make key decisions about planning and
scheduling. An add-on solution, like the Resource Manager for Excel,
provides the benefits of an integrated solution and the ability to customize
via the flexibility of the spreadsheet.
Previous to
Lotus, the team implemented custom spreadsheet solutions with EDSand
Caterpillar. In fact, in the mid 80’s, the team implemented the very first
IBM Industrial Computer with a real time spreadsheet interface for cell
control in various GM Plants.
When Lotus
decided to phase-out internal support for vertical market products, the core
manufacturing team, with representatives from industry and software/hardware
companies, formed User Solutions, Inc. a private corporation, to fill the
void for basic tools by providing spreadsheet-based template applications
for Forecasting, Inventory Management, Material Requirements Planning,
Production Planning, Facility Layout, Scheduling, Quality Control, and more.
Lotus Development Corporation fully supported the transition of on-going
product development to an independent company.
Thus, User
Solutions became the first and only company dedicated to providing the
manufacturing and operations management markets with a robust line of
spreadsheet templates that will empower millions with sophisticated analysis
tools to reduce operation costs, while improving efficiency and quality.
Our
customer-driven approach enables us to bring sophisticated analysis
techniques within the reach of all operations.
